OUR OFFICIAL CHARITY – MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT
Who makes you go the extra mile?

Join Team Macmillan today and together we’ll go the extra mile to help thousands of people living with cancer. Macmillan Cancer Support is dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by cancer. We provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care. 99% of our work is funded by voluntary donations, that’s why your support will make so much difference.

Running one of the Bournemouth Marathon Festival races for Macmillan means there’s a team of people around you every step of the way, giving you a lift and inspiring you on to the finish line. And by taking part you’ll raise vital money for Macmillan and make a real difference to the lives of people affected by cancer.

So, join Team Macmillan today. Let’s go the extra mile together.

Premier Affiliate Charities

We are very proud to present our five Premier Affiliate Charities. They each work tirelessly for those battling some of the UK’s most common and deadly diseases, BUT they can’t do it without YOU! Read on to decide which of our Premier Affiliate Charities is closest to your heart and join their team today!

Parkinson’s UK
Parkinson’s UK brings people with Parkinson’s, their carers and families together via our network of local groups, our website and free confidential helpline.
As the UK’s Parkinson’s support and research charity we’re leading the work to find a cure, and we’re closer than ever. We also campaign to change attitudes and demand better services. Our work is entirely dependent on donations. Help us find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s.

Julia’s House
Julia’s House supports Dorset and Wiltshire families with life-limited children, providing frequent respite care in our hospice in Corfe Mullen and in families’ own homes. We are there year-round and in a crisis, offering emotional and practical support, emergency respite and end-of-life care. We support the whole family, not just the sick child, organising social activities for parents and siblings.

Run for us and make a real difference to local families in need.
Save the Children
The early morning runs
The blisters and the aching limbs
The expert support with your training
And the cheers while you’re on the course
The fundraising pledge we’ll help you smash
And the children’s lives you’ll help transform
From Bangladesh to Brazil, Syria to Sierra Leone
The feeling it was all worth it

CRUK

We’re the only ones fighting over 200 cancers – including the 1 that matters most to you. Every step we make towards beating cancer relies on every pound, and every runner. As a collective force we’ve helped double survival rates in the last forty years. But we can’t stop there.

Sooner or later we will find cures for all cancers. Let’s make it sooner.

How to run for charity

There are 3 different ways to become a charity runner at Bournemouth Marathon Festival.

The first two are types of Charity Entry where your chosen charity will cover up to the full cost of your entry and expect you to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship money in return. The third is where you purchase your Own Entry and fundraise for a charity of your choice, with no minimum sponsorship commitment:

Instant Charity Entry (ICE) - You can enter right away!

ICE is a special kind of entry available only to charity runners for our Official Charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, or one of our Premier Affiliate Charities.

ICE means that your entry in the event is ’approved’ as soon as you submit your details – no turning back!  Your chosen charity may require that you pay a regisration fee towards the cost of your entry, which you can find out more about by visiting their page on this website.

How to complete an ICE:

  • Visit the page of your chosen charity.  It must be either our Official Charity or one of our Premier Affiliate Charities.
  • Scroll to the ICE section at the bottom of the page and choose your event.
  • Complete the online entry form.  This will include information about registration fees if applicable and will advise the miminum sponsorship you are required to raise.  If you already have a ’My Details’ account you should log in before competing the online entry form.  If not, you can set up an account as part of the entry process.
  • Click ’Enter Now’.
  • Congratulations! You have now entered your chosen race.  If you are required to pay a regsitration fee to your charity, please ensure you do so straight away to ensure your entry is not withdrawn.

Apply for a Charity Entry

If you would like a Charity Entry with one of our Affiliate Charities, rather than the Official or Premier Affiliates, you will need to apply for a Charity Entry.

Your chosen Affiliate Charity will have 21 days (or until entries close, whichever comes first) to decide whether to approve or decline your application before it expires automatically.  You cannot apply to more than one charity at a time, but if you do change your mind while awaiting approval, you can cancel your application.

How to apply:

    • Visit the page of your chosen Affiliate Charity.

    • Scroll to the Charity Entry section at the bottom of the page and choose your event.

    • Complete the online application form.  If you already have a ’My Details’ account you should log in before competing the application form.  If not, you can set up an account as part of the entry process.

    • Click ’Submit’.

    • You will receive an email from the event organisers within 21 days (or before entries close, whichever comes first) to advise whether or not your application has been successful. During that time, your charity may contact you directly to discuss your application and minimum sponsorship requirements/registration fees.

Own Entry Fundraising

You are welcome to purchase your Own Entry (e.g Standard) in your chosen race and fundraise for any charity of your choice.

If you have purchased your Own Entry and would like to fundraise for one of our listed charities, you can log in to your My Details account after you have purchased your entry and click the link to ’tell a charity I have my own entry’.  We will then inform your chosen charity and they will be in touch with you directly to discuss fundraising etc.

If you have purchased your Own Entry and would like to fundraise for a charity not listed on this website, you are welcome to do so however you would need to contact the charity directly to discuss fundraising etc.

Why run for charity?

Motivation

When the training is getting tough and you’re wondering what you’ve got yourself into, the knowledge that you’re raising money for a cause you really believe in will give you a purpose and keep you on track right up to race day!

Support

Your chosen charity will offer you fantastic support and encouragement with both your training and fundraising. Many charities are also present on race day to cheer you on and congratulate you beyond the finish line.

The Cause

Have you or a loved one been affected by a specific illness? Picking a cause close to your heart, gives you the drive and determination to dig in and do all your can to raise funds for that charity.

Awareness

By choosing a charity to run for and asking your family and friends to support you, you will raise awareness for your charity and your cause. You never know, next year you might find you have company on the start line!

Team Work

Enhance your whole EMF experience by being part of your charity’s team, from the moment you sign up right up to race day. Wear your charity vest with pride on race day and enjoy the camaraderie amongst your fellow charity runners!

JustGiving

JustGiving make fundraising as easy as possible for you. Click here for the JustGiving fundraising toolkit to get started! Remember all donations from UK taxpayers are subject to Gift Aid, an extra 25p for every £1 donated!
